VMOBIL Lab Journey
Overview
VMOBIL Lab Journey is a modern public transport app developed for Vorarlberg’s Verkehrsverbund. Built entirely from scratch in SwiftUI, it combines intuitive design with powerful routing features. As the sole iOS developer and UI/UX designer, I was responsible for both the technical foundation and the user experience – from prototyping to implementation.
Design Goal
To build an effortless, visually rich app that makes navigating public transport feel natural and smart — even for first-time users. Core priorities included clarity, animation-driven feedback, and a smooth search-to-result journey that requires no account or onboarding friction.
Feature Highlights & Approach
Route planning with map-based search, real-time data
Custom digital annual ticket with visual security elements (motion parallax, dynamic scrolling text to prevent screenshots)
Favorites, shortcuts, and recently searched connections stored locally
Clean, gesture-friendly UI built in SwiftUI with minimal taps and microinteractions
Designed as a Lab product — meaning iterative, explorative, and openly presented for feedback
Sunset
The VMOBIL Lab Journey app is being sunset. VMOBIL has chosen to pursue a new public mobility app. To avoid product confusion, my version will no longer be officially continued under VMOBIL.
